At a time when Baroque art, with its serious and realistic themes, was prevalent in Europe, 18th century France witnessed the birth of a strikingly different art movement – Rococo.

Rococo art celebrated the joyful themes of love and nature. Characterised by ostentatious ornamentation, intricate, sinuous motifs, asymmetric patterns, and inclination to lighter, pastel or gold-based hues, the art style evoked feelings of youth, playfulness, and romance – capturing the essence of joie de vivre.
